Unique Shop Brings Rustic Chic to Mesa

by Jamie Killin October 1, 2017
written by Jamie Killin October 1, 2017

More than just a rustic boutique, Pole Barn Primitives is a place to find all kinds of treasures, with new items constantly coming in and great deals available to everyone.

For owner Lisa Sorensen, the human aspect of owning her shop is the most rewarding. She loves getting to know her customers and finding items she knows they’ll love.

“Once anybody meets me, they know right off the bat that I absolutely love what I do,” Lisa said. “I don’t do it for money. I just do it because I love my customers, I love meeting people, and I love the whole concept of people loving what I do. That’s a big deal to me.”

This approach has allowed Lisa and her business to be successful for nearly 20 years.

She previously had a shop in Washington for 15 years, before re-opening in Mesa two years ago. Now, she’s been in her current location in Downtown Mesa for exactly one year.

“It has been nothing but great,” she said. “We love it down here. We love being in downtown. Downtown Mesa is getting better and better ever since I’ve been down here.”

Now, she’s building up a loyal following here in the Valley. This loyalty is due in large part to her knack for finding great items and always keeping Pole Barn Primitives stocked with a variety of new, fun items that appeal to a wide range of people.

“We try to cover our bases with everybody,” said Lisa. “I don’t like to just stick to one thing because not everybody likes the same thing. So, we try to just get a little bit of everything. Hopefully, when someone comes in here, they can find something.”

The only thing she enjoys as much as getting to know her customers is the hunt for finding fantastic new items.

“What pushes me every day is just pleasing people and finding things they love and knowing it was worth the time and effort,” Lisa said.

She also makes an effort to provide her items at a great value and is always willing to make a deal with her customers.

“We’re very different from a lot of people because we make deals for literally everybody who walks through the door,” Lisa said. “I just like things to leave the shop.”
