Tech Center focuses on attracting medical device companies

falcon-tech-center-picGreat things are happening in District 5, and it is a pleasure to provide you with some details about Mesa’s Falcon Tech Center.

Located at the heart of Mesa’s Falcon District, a hotspot for aerospace, manufacturing and technology, the Falcon Tech Center is a new development designed to:

  • Expand Mesa’s established technology companies, and grow the number of high quality, knowledge-based jobs in the city.
  • Create a one-of-a-kind destination in Arizona where technology companies cluster.
  • Elevate Mesa’s brand, and promote Mesa as a technology hub for growing companies.
  • Leverage City of Mesa resources to guide development and recruit high quality projects.
  • Offer public-private partnership opportunities for developers and companies to join in implementing the council’s vision for quality economic development and cutting-edge, place-making projects.

The center will offer a high-end, campus-like setting with the primary purpose of attracting technology companies, especially medical device companies.

Uniquely positioned, the Falcon Tech Center features several competitive advantages. It is one of Arizona’s only technology parks focused on the medical device and technology industries. It is a prime location, with existing utility infrastructure and convenient access to market. Arizona has a strong, existing health care and bioscience cluster in place, and the market is expanding, with Arizona biomedical jobs growing three times faster than the national average.

The center features more than 63 acres of city-owned land, with the potential of 40-year or longer land lease terms available. It is adjacent to Falcon Field Airport, providing easy access for corporate aircraft. The area also hosts a robust infrastructure with significant power, water, natural gas and redundant telecom fiber capacity.

The site is especially appealing to California-based companies because of Arizona’s lower operating costs (up to 40 percent lower than California); lower total payroll costs, including some of the lowest workers compensation and unemployment insurance in the country; no sales tax on manufacturing equipment; no inventory tax; right-to-work state; low unionization; and minimal regulation.
