Spring Is The Time to Love Your House

by John Karadsheh April 1, 2016

35328798_lWith the weather beautiful and spring flowers in full bloom, now is the time to really appreciate your house.

We often perceive home maintenance, cleaning and updating as a chore. If you put good energy into your house, however, you will enjoy it more throughout the year, and your house will love you back. So, all those things you would get ready to do if you were going to sell, do them now because you are planning to stay.

Here are some great ways to show the love:

  1. Plant flowers. Flowers are inexpensive and abundant this time of year. Add flowers to pots and garden beds, and get instant gratification, all while getting your first spring tan while in the yard.
  2. Bring spring indoors. Do a quick run to Trader Joe’s for orchids, herbs and daffodils. They will brighten your whole house.
  3. Clean the windows inside and out. Your whole house will sparkle.
  4. Choose your least favorite room to refresh. Take that space you avoid, and dedicate a weekend to making it your favorite space in the house with an inexpensive Target or Ikea redo.
  5. Eat outside in your yard at least once a week, and enjoy the beautiful weather.
  6. Paint the interior of your house one of the new trendy cream shades and lose the tans. Your house will feel bigger, brighter and happier.
  7. Change out your throw pillows for light and bright spring-inspired shades.
  8. Get your ACs serviced, and clean your refrigerator and freezer coils. You will thank yourself this summer.
  9. Straighten the garage—before your wife makes you do it in July when it is twice as hot.
  10. Declutter like you are getting ready to sell—but, instead, just appreciate having less stuff to manage.

And lastly, enjoy your house. The happiest houses are those filled with friends, laughter and good times.
