Most of us have heard, “April showers bring May flowers.” This is true in other parts of our state, or other states, but not here in Mesa.
The blooms of the trees and the bushes are mostly gone now, but the desert cacti will be showing their beautiful blooms next. Some of us who experience desert blooms with watery eyes and runny noses would rather not have this occurrence each spring.
So, what can homeowners do if plant allergies are bothersome, other than go to doctors and take allergy medication? This may be a good time to identify what trees and plants need to be removed from your yard, before the summer heat arrives. Sometimes this is difficult to figure out and even harder to accomplish. It may mean some changes to your landscape and some expenses.
If you are just starting to design your yard, you should consider which plants cause an allergic reaction to you and those living with you. You may want to consult with a plant nursery person, or with a landscape designer such as myself, to develop a custom landscape plan.
This not only helps you avoid allergenic plant material, it allows you to have a plan that includes water saving plants, and other key features which will incorporate well into your family’s lifestyle. Remember to plan with a plan.
