Nancy Nemitz

Dear Nancy,

I enjoy decorating my home with seasonal things, like Easter placemats, hand towels, candleholders, etc. From an organizational standpoint, is it better to keep all things for that one holiday together or keep seasonal placemats mixed in with regular placemats?

Signed, Tina

That’s a great question. I recommend seasonal household items, like placemats, hand towels and candleholders, be kept with all the other placemats, towels and candleholders. It’s easier to find them when you need them. Let’s say you have a pink tablecloth. If you store it with springtime things, you might not think to use it for a birthday party or other occasion.

I keep my seasonal hand towels with the other hand towels, but on a higher shelf, so it is easy to get to the ones I use year round. I have separate, clear and labeled storage boxes for all the other holiday decorations I use on the Fourth of July, Easter, Christmas and Halloween.
