Organizing Your Home One Step at a Time

by Nancy Nemitz October 28, 2013

How many of your projects around the house don’t get done because they are overwhelming?

The mere thought of organizing the garage is enough to get most of us doing anything else to avoid such a daunting task. Breaking down the project into manageable pieces is key.

First, there has to be a plan. For starters, create zones. In a garage, there are areas or zones for car repair and maintenance, sports equipment, tools, holiday, household, and whatever other junk you are keeping in the event you need it someday.

Once you decide how much space to give each area, you can then determine all the things that fit that category. Next, find all the sports equipment. As you find it, get rid of broken or never used equipment. Put all the equipment you are keeping on a tarp or in a section of the garage. You are bound to find a missing piece or one more basketball over in the Christmas section.

This is step one. Get everything out and arrange it together so you can see what you have.

Don’t try and organize with everything still on the shelves. This step one should be followed for every room you are organizing. Notice I didn’t say “try to get organized.” Don’t try. Succeed.

Don’t want to do it alone and want to save money by doing it right the first time? Make an appointment with professional organizer, Nancy Nemitz, (480) 223-8939. Create the Space Professional Organizing LLC has been organizing business and residential clients since 2004. Nancy is currently the professional organizer for one of the dream homes on the Street of Dreams Home Tour in Gilbert.
