Office Supply Strategy Session: Most Workspaces Have Paper Clips by the Thousands

by Nancy Nemitz October 1, 2017

Nancy Nemitz

Since 2004, I’ve organized tons of paper, and I can’t remember a client who didn’t want me to take off the paper clip before papers were shredded or tossed.

If one gets by me, you’d think I was throwing out a bar of chocolate. Since no paper clip is thrown away, I wonder why you need thousands. For those of you who buy office supplies at Costco, one of the reasons you have so many is they are sold in packages of 1,000 No. 1 size clips.

Most of you don’t stop at No. 1, but want jumbo, multicolor plastic coated and numerous other varieties of ways to hold paper together. It’s impossible to just buy 25 paper clips because they cost nothing to produce.

When you file papers, take off the paper clip and staple in the upper left hand corner. Papers will snag and get tangled up if you leave the paper clip in place. The good news is you never have to buy another paper clip again.

Don’t get me started on the sizes and varieties of binder clips. Swap out paper clip for binder clip, and it’s the same message.

Nancy Nemitz has organized formerly disorganized people since 2004. She will organize your workspace even if you have thousands of paper clips. Find out how Nancy can help you at createthespace.com.
