National Elementary Honor Society Raises Funds for Shelter Pets

The National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS) at Red Mountain Ranch Elementary School organized a shelter pet donation drive for the Arizona Animal Welfare League (AAWL). The AAWL is the oldest no-kill shelter in Arizona and they help support other shelters across the state, especially those located in more rural communities.

Last year they helped save over 4,000 pets and we are proud to be a part of that continued effort. The items gathered included office, cleaning, and first aid supplies as well as pet food, treats, and plenty of toys for the cats and dogs to enjoy while they wait to find their fur-ever home!

Our Red Mountain Ranch families were very generous with their donations despite still being in a pandemic. These supplies will be utilized at the AAWL as well as sent to other shelters in need throughout the state.

The NEHS is the elementary chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS). Students involved with this organization are not only academically focused but also service-minded in regard to helping support their local and school community.

“Pets are such an important part of our lives and the students in the NEHS saw a need to help the many pets currently in Arizona shelters,” said Mrs. Szonn, who is the NEHS advisor at Red Mountain Ranch Elementary. “During this drive, students learned about the many wonderful things the AAWL does for shelter pets across the state as well as educational programs offered to many students in the Phoenix-metro area.”
