Medical and Science Careers Flourish At MCC Red Mountain Campus

by Mesa Community College December 1, 2018
written by Mesa Community College December 1, 2018

With health care occupations among the fastest growing, most rewarding and best paying careers, Mesa Community College (MCC) Red Mountain (RM) Campus offers highly rated and extremely affordable educational opportunities to achieve careers in health care, medicine and other STEM fields.

Some courses put students on track for transferring to universities for advanced degrees. Others can help prepare for a desirable job in less than a year.

Located on 98 acres of vibrant Sonoran Desert, in Northeast Mesa, Mother Nature serves as an inspiring learning habitat. Globally renowned faculty, small class sizes and technologically advanced facilities reflect the ambiance and quality of a small liberal arts college but with the affordability of a community college.

Acclaimed research by distinguished faculty allows students to participate in undergraduate research projects. Such participation, in turn, means expanding their education resumes and introducing them to valuable contacts in the fields in which they aspire to work.

Students excel on the national stage. MCC graduate Jacob Sorenson was among just 75 students in the entire United States to receive a Jack Kent Cooke Foundation undergraduate scholarship two years ago. This past year, Jacob, now at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, and MCC alumnus Fernanda Silva Celaya, at the University of California at Los Angeles School of Dentistry, were among 53 students in the entire nation to receive graduate scholarships from the foundation.

MCC transfer agreements with Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, University of Arizona and more than 45 additional universities allow students to move seamlessly to four-year programs. They also can begin college at MCC and stay on the RM Campus to earn Bachelor of Science degrees, thanks to an MCC and Grand Canyon University partnership.

Students in the Dental Hygiene program earn an associate in applied science degree and then take the exams necessary to obtain a Dental Hygiene license. Over the past decade, the MCC students’ pass rate for the licensure exams has been 100 percent.

Coming this Fall 2019 Semester, the college’s Certified Nursing Assistant program is moving into redesigned, state-of-the-art classrooms and labs on the Red Mountain Campus. The eight-week course is offered twice a semester.

MCC’s low tuition rates and wealth of financial aid opportunities help make it possible to earn the quality and affordable qualifications needed for an in-demand career. Visit the Enrollment Center in the Mesquite building or go to mesacc.edu/red-mountain.
