Las Sendas Resident and ASU Student Creates Community Health App

by Kyle Markell December 1, 2019
written by Kyle Markell December 1, 2019

Technology is more prominent than ever in our day-to-day lives and, because of that, we tend to be lazier.

We no longer must leave the house to get dinner, watch movies, or go shopping.

Over 75 percent of the population in America does not exercise enough. Are you part of that 75 percent? I know I am, and that’s why I am making a change.

Not many people know that the lack of exercise can lead to the onset of not only diabetes and heart disease, but also certain cancers.

My name is Kyle Markell and I am a Las Sendas resident attending Arizona State University. Along with some of my colleagues from school, I have created WeFit, a community health app. Our mission is to make engaging in your health, wellness, and fitness journey much more exciting and social.

On the WeFit app, users can do many different things, but we have four core features that are sure to help along your health journey.

First, on the home screen labeled under posts, users can create picture or video posts with tags, such as fitness, outdoors, recipes, motivation and more. These posts can be filtered by location, tags, age, gender, etc.

Second, users can post and attend local healthy activities like hikes and yoga. This is a great feature for folks looking to be more physically active with their neighbors and community alike.

Third, users can join or create support groups for any mental or physical health issues/conditions they are passionate about. Users can give support, get support, and ask questions on the question board. The best part about this feature is that you can finally post anonymously about your health, preserving your privacy.

Finally, users can chat with local licensed health professionals for free.

WeFit is different from all other health apps, taking the exciting aspect of social media and merging it with the importance of community in health.

WeFit will be available on the App Store in the middle of December. However, you can sign up now on our website at www.wefit.us. WeFit is completely free for the non-health professional user, and we stand firmly by this.

We are very passionate about changing the culture of health, starting with our very own community. Your support will help us tremendously, and we look forward to seeing all of the new faces on our platform in the middle of December.

For further information, you can contact me, Kyle Markell, at (480) 220-3115, or at kyle@wefit.us.
