Las Sendas Quilt Club Will Host Annual Show

by Audrey Good March 7, 2013
written by Audrey Good March 7, 2013

quiltThe Las Sendas Quilt Club will host its ninth annual quilt show on Sunday, March 17, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Trailhead Members Club, 7900 E. Eagle Crest Drive.

Back by popular demand is the award-winning Red Mountain art quilt. This stunning beauty is a group effort by 12 members, each making a block interpreting a view of this Arizona landmark. Individual techniques vary, from appliqué to thread painting, to foundation piecing—all combining for an unforgettable quilt. Prize-winning quilts from the 2012 Payson Quilt Show also will be on display.

The club membership boasts several nationally published quilt designers, as well as teachers and artists. Their designs, along with the imaginative offerings of all 31 club members, will be on exhibit.

With more than 100 projects on display, there will be something to enchant every viewer. These projects include art quilts, traditional quilts, purses, pillowcases and table runners, with each one reflecting the personal color palette and style of the creator. You will even see several dog beds made from quilt scraps. Yes, quilters are a thrifty and resourceful group.

Each member is asked to make one quilt for charity every year, but most exceed this pledge. This year, the quilt club donated 25 quilts to Ryan House, a children’s hospice facility in Central Phoenix. Other charity quilts will be on display before being donated to the House of Refuge in Mesa, while many of the pillowcases will be given to the Boys and Girls Club of Apache Junction.

The Las Sendas Quilt Club meets at the Trailhead Members Club on the third Monday of each month. Each month, one Sunday is designated for members to gather at the same location for the All-Day Sew. Special classes, taught primarily by club members, also are scheduled throughout the year.

This year, members have been invited to participate in a mystery quilt project. Instructions are revealed block by block. After all have been completed, the puzzle pieces fit together to reveal a quilt top. Participation in all events is voluntary.

An admission donation of $1 is suggested. All monies collected will be given to Sunshine Acres Children’s Home. Free (and delicious) refreshments will be served all afternoon.
