Ladies’ High Tea Is All About Hats

DSC08459 %281%29 copyImagine a bygone era when ladies sipped tea, dined on afternoon delicacies and wore fine millinery bedecked with feathers, flowers and all things fanciful.

Well, this was the scene recently in the Overlook Room of Red Mountain Ranch Country Club, when the women of the Red Mountain Ranch Social Club gathered for an All About Hats high tea. What fun it was to admire those wide brims and fashionable pillbox hats, which once were staples of women’s couture.

After being seated at the tastefully decorated dining tables, featuring charming spring hats, tea-time sayings on artful tea bags and lovely china teapots, guests enjoyed a midday luncheon of croissant sandwiches, fruit and varieties of tea, as well as mouthwatering desserts. Of course, the competent Red Mountain Ranch Country Club staff served everything.

Following the very satisfying meal, party organizers chair Shirley Larson and her team, consisting of Ferne Zabezensky, Martha Stephens and Kim Roloff, presented the winners with great take-home door prizes.

The Valley Girls, a Sweet Adeline quartet, entertained the attendees following the drawings. The cappella harmony proved to be music to the ear. Social club founding member Char Underwood delighted all with a wonderful recitation of an Ilene Bauer poem entitled Wearing a Hat. It was so appropriate to the afternoon’s theme.

After recognizing various ladies for their long and faithful service to the club over the years, it was unanimous the theme of hats be repeated in the future, perhaps as Derby Day.

For more information regarding the Red Mountain Ranch Social Club, consider attending one of our meetings. They are held on the second Thursday of each month (except December), at the country club, located in the middle of Red Mountain Ranch. There is no requirement of membership to attend.
