Halloween Comes Early to Red Mountain Ranch

On Oct. 5, at 5 p.m., Halloween came early to Red Mountain Ranch.

The Social Club held its annual Fall Cocktail Party, with the addition of Halloween costumes and decorations.

Many members came to the door and lobby of the Red Mountain Ranch Country Club, and were amazed at the variety of costumes their fellow members were wearing.

Social Club President Betty Day and husband, Bob, came as Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf. Vice President Kathy Busto came as a pumpkin. Social Committee Member Wanda Wimp came as a Scarlet Letter book. Treasurer Jay Williamson came as a lost Hawaiian tourist with a sign on his back, which read, “I’m lost. Call Mommy 127-L,” which was his folks’ telephone number in small town Palouse, Wash., when he was growing up.

Director Shirley Bender was a cowgirl and husband, Dave, came as a wild young Hawaiian guy, with a great black wig, looking for a good time. Director Linda Parker came as a zookeeper, taking care of husband, Lyle, who came as a monkey with his banana.

Our photographer, Roz Capon, came as a witch and husband, Len, as a cowboy. Janet Glessner came as a witch doctor taking care of husband, Jack, who was a bloodied, wounded accident victim in a wheelchair. Char Underwood came as a pumpkin. Blanche Duff came as a devil and husband, Tom, as a carnival director, with a red and white shirt. Kay Campbell came with a T-shirt that said, “This is my Costume.”

The surprise of the evening was Mike Favier who came as a lovely bikini girl, with sunglasses and hat. He wore his wife’s swimming suit long cover-up T-shirt, which had a picture of a beautiful bikini girl on both the front and back. Wow, what a laugh. It looked so real. His wife, Pat, came as a beautiful butterfly.

After a long time of visiting and laughing at each other’s costumes, everybody went through the food line, and sat down to enjoy the meal. A total of 45 members attended the party.

The menu consisted of pork tostadas, root beer braised brisket sliders with cabbage coleslaw, cold shrimp salad, cheese and cracker display, artichoke and spinach dip, plus coffee and tea.

After the meal, several prize drawings were made for guests who came in costumes. Guests with costumes were given a raffle ticket while checking in earlier. Our host for the night, Betty Day, had several announcements, and thanked everybody for coming. All enjoyed a great night of laughter.

We would like to invite you to come to our meetings, which are held on the second Thursday of the month at 9:30 a.m. at the Red Mountain Ranch Country Club, located in the middle of Red Mountain Ranch. We meet every month except December.
