Grassroots Effort Yields Tremendous Results

In late January, the Red Mountain Ranch Owners Association Board of Directors voted to support the community petition and the City of Mesa’s opposition to the development of the golf course property and open space in Red Mountain Ranch.

This official support from the board means the City of Mesa, the Owners Association and the vast majority of homeowners are aligned in their effort to keep the golf course as the centerpiece of the master planned community.

The petition committee, headed by Debbie Schwartzkopf, worked tirelessly by knocking on doors to inform neighbors and asking for their support. As a result, 97 percent of those property owners contacted signed the petition supporting the City of Mesa and its efforts to oppose the development. There still is time to sign the petition at redmountaincommunity.com. You don’t have to be a Red Mountain Ranch homeowner to do so.

The next step is the Board of Adjustment Hearing, on April 12, at 5 p.m., in the Mesa City Council Chambers, located at 57 E. First St. During this special hearing, the Red Mountain Ranch issue will be the only topic discussed.

Another illustration of the enthusiasm and talent in Red Mountain Ranch is Robin Niles. She volunteered to develop the community website in order to organize official documents and post the latest news, as well as allow anyone 18 and over to sign the petition.

For those of you who want more information concerning the City of Mesa’s position, go to the website at redmountaincommunity.com, and click on Public Documents Filed by the City. The City’s position is clearly stated in the City of Mesa’s Zoning Administrator’s Interpretation Letter to Divot Partners, dated June 29, 2016.
