Flancer’s Restaurant Enters National Contest and Wins Honorable Mention

Prickly Pear ChickenMany restaurants have a claim to fame or signature item drawing people from far and wide to come and taste, but Flancer’s Incredible Sandwiches and Pizzeria has taken the concept one step further.

Flancer’s is flaunting the title of Best Sandwich in America, after entering their (almost) famous Perfect Prickly Pear sandwich into the nationwide contest hosted by Restaurant Hospitality Magazine June issue.

“And the winner is… not us, but we got honorable mention,” said owner and former chef Jeff Flancer.

Flancer’s, a community restaurant, with locations in Mesa and Gilbert, announced it had entered its sandwich into the contest after already winning the Best Sandwich in Phoenix title and Best Neighborhood Restaurant award. Plus, they even hold the interesting distinction of Best use of Prickly Pear Fruit in an Entrée. As for the sandwich itself, it is a delicious layering of homemade bread and marinated chicken breast, coated with prickly pear glaze, then topped with green chile mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato and melted provolone.

Jeff believed his sandwich had a real shot at winning the coveted title. “My Perfect Prickly Pear sandwich is not only unique and delicious, but it is a true testament to Southwestern flavors and ingredients,” he stated. “Chefs usually overlook sweet, savory and spicy, even though the combination works so well together.”

For more information about Flancer’s Incredible Sandwiches and Pizzeria, visit the Web site at www.flancers.com. Visit the Gilbert location, at 610 N. Gilbert Road, or call (480) 926-9077. Visit the Mesa location, at 1902 N. Higley Road, or call (480) 396-0077.
