Finding ideas for new pies sounds like a tough job

SONY DSCCheryl Standage, owner of Piefection, just returned from a trip to Hawaii, where she sought inspiration for a new pie.

This is a tough job for some, but not so for Piefection’s owner.

“Somebody’s got to do it,” quipped Cheryl. “One of our family’s favorite things to do is travel, and we are always on the lookout for new ingredients and flavors we can bring home to share with our customers.”

So, was the latest trip a success? “It led us to my new favorite pie,” explained Cheryl. “In Hawaii, we fell in love with lilikoi—a yellow passionfruit. We first tried lilikoi as an ice cream, but I just knew it would make an incredible pie. It’s tart and sweet at the same time,” she explained. “We loved the flavor and fragrance so much, we came right home and started baking. We tried out a few different pie ideas, and now we have a recipe we are thrilled with.”

When asked to describe the new pie, Cheryl said, “It looks a lot like a Key Lime or our Arizona Orange pie. It has that same buttery graham cracker crust, but the creamy, silky filling has a bright passionfruit flavor and real whipped cream to finish it off,” she continued. “It’s different from any pie you’ve ever tried.”

How can you get your hands on Lilikoi Pie? It’s Piefection’s pie of the month for June, meaning it’s available whole or by the slice daily at Piefection. “We can only make a limited number of this pie. So, I wouldn’t wait too long to stop by,” warned Cheryl. “We’ve tested it out on our family and friends, and they’ve been as thrilled with it as we are. Therefore, I feel confident saying you won’t regret it,” she promised.

Get your Lilikoi Pie at Piefection, located at the southwest corner of Power and Brown roads, at 6731 E. Brown Road. To order, call 480.218.PIES (7437), or place orders online at www.piefectionaz.com. Piefection always has pie for walk-in customers, as well.
