Community Wellness Clinics offer free screenings

by Dawn Abbey November 5, 2010
written by Dawn Abbey November 5, 2010

While taking care of your health can be challenging and expensive, the East Valley now offers free community wellness clinics supported by Banner Health’s East Valley hospitals.

With its large senior population and the seasonal influx of our snowbird friends, the East Valley has many residents who need affordable health services. Registered nurses provide free wellness screenings and health education, assisted by Banner Health wellness volunteers.

Screenings include blood pressure, pulse, weight, diabetic screening and blood oxygen. In addition, community wellness nurses can answer questions and provide information for specific health concerns.

Participants also receive a health record to keep with them to document health information for their physicians and other health care providers.

Sometimes you just don’t know who to ask or where to go for information. The clinics can help if you need a referral to a doctor, hospital or other community resources, such as home health resources, home medical equipment, senior programs, hospice programs, grief and bereavement counseling and support groups of all types.

Nurses also can provide teaching referrals, as well as assist communities and organizations in scheduling speakers on a variety of health topics.

Free screenings are offered daily at many convenient community sites. You don’t have to be a resident of the communities listed to participate in the free programs offered there. Here are the sites in the area of Northeast Mesa. For a complete listing of locations or additional information, or to become a volunteer, visit BannerHealth.com, or call (480) 797-8323.
