Breathe Easy With Duct Cleaning For Your Home

by Sam Yingling October 2, 2015October 2, 2015

Here are some questions to answer and circumstances to evaluate concerning clean air in your home, and the key role air ducts play.

Do you or your family members suffer from asthma, allergies or a respiratory health condition? Have you recently remodeled your home, or do you find yourself constantly cleaning excessive amounts of dust off of tabletops and furniture? Have you noticed dust or dirt clinging to your air vent covers or registers?

Even with consistent air conditioning filter changes and regular HVAC maintenance, air ducts can become dirty over time. If you don’t remember the last time your ductwork was cleaned, it may be time to schedule an inspection of your air duct system and a professional duct cleaning.

Indoor air quality isn’t the only potential benefit of duct cleaning for your home. Besides everyday pollutants, like dust mites and pet dander, air ducts also can harbor mold, fungal spores, chemical contaminates and even rodents. Additionally, a thorough inspection of your home’s duct system can expose any leaks in your ductwork, which could be driving up the cost of your energy bill each month.

Air ducts can be inspected and cleaned on a regular basis, along with the air conditioning and heating system. Be cautious when searching for a qualified professional. While some states require an HVAC license for this project, Arizona does not require any certification to clean your air ducts.

Proper duct cleaning should include cleaning of all registers, inside all ducts, coils, motors and fans, as well as the air handler and the interior of the furnace and air conditioning system. In some cases, duct cleaning is followed by an EPA approved antimicrobial, which kills mold, harmful bacteria and viruses.

This scrupulous cleaning of your home’s airway ensures that your furnace and air conditioning unit is running at its optimum efficiency, and may even extend the life of your entire heating and cooling system. Complete duct cleaning typically should take several hours, depending on the size of your home. In addition, there should not be any mess or dirt from air vents or registers left behind for you to clean up.

John 14 Home Services uses state-of-the-art airflow diagnostic tools and a hospital-grade power vacuum specialized for duct cleaning with HEPA filtration. This equipment is used in conjunction with designated air duct cleaning equipment to reach inside and clean all ducts for the best possible result.
