Beat sun damage the natural way

aveda natural remedies for sun damageEven though it’s only June, summer is slamming us, and it’s never too soon to start protecting skin and hair from the ravages of sun, swimming and hot weather.

Maytee Green, owner of True Essence Salon and Spa, has the perfect products for those who appreciate a more natural approach to skin and hair care.

True Essence, the only authorized Aveda Concept Salon in Mesa, offers the Aveda line of plant-based, natural and organic hair and body care products.

“Summer skin and hair care is a three-step process of defense and recovery,” explained Maytee. “First is cleansing. Aveda’s Sun Care Hair and Body Cleanser gently and effectively removes chlorine, salt and product build-up, while helping to maintain moisture balance, and it’s also color-safe for your hair.

“The corn-derived chelator removes minerals found in chlorinated pool water, which cause discoloration,” she continued. “Amazon babassu palm-derived cleansers remove salt, chlorine and product build-up, and tamanu flower-seed and organic coconut oils help maintain moisture. Its light tropical aroma is from 100 percent certified organic plant essences.”

After a day in the sun, Maytee suggests using the Sun Care After-Sun Hair Masque, an intensive cream masque that restores sun-exposed hair, moisturizes and helps defend against free radicals. It contains plant-based protein, natural oils, green tea extract and vitamins to restore weakened hair. “After washing with the cleanser, rinse, and apply the mask to your hair,” she said. “I just leave it on while shaving my legs, and then rinse it out. The effect is amazing.”

To keep your hair safe from fading, damage and dryness, use Sun Care Protective Hair Veil before going out in the sun, suggested Maytee. This lightweight, water-resistant UV defense mist forms an invisible screen to help protect hair from sun exposure for up to 16 hours. The mist’s UVA/UVB filters are derived from wintergreen and cinnamon bark oils.

“And don’t forget, June also means Father’s Day,” said Maytee. “We have a complete line of natural and organic grooming items for men, too, including shave, skin and hair products. You can also get Dad some spa services, like a relaxing massage or facial, and even manicures and pedicures. For guys who like to spend time in the sun and water, a pedicure is nice before donning those sandals.”

Stop by True Essence Salon and Spa at 2910 N. Power Road, right next to Basha’s, to check out the natural and organic products and to receive personal recommendations. You also can call (480) 396-3112. In addition, more information about Aveda and the natural ingredients used in the products can be found at www.Aveda.com.
