CHEF PONDERS ORIGIN OF EASTER EGGS

Easter Sunday, April 21, is fast approaching.

“Here at Las Sendas, we have been preparing for a wonderful Easter Day by writing menus and testing recipes for our spectacular Easter Brunch,” said Las Sendas Executive Chef Josh Nylin.

While researching Easter traditions, Chef Josh shared some interesting information he discovered about Easter:

Easter is a religious holiday celebrating Christ’s rising, but some Easter customs, such as the Easter egg, are most likely derived from pagan traditions. While, for Christians, the egg is symbolic of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, representing his emergence from the tomb, the egg has been a symbol since before Christians even began celebrating Jesus’ resurrection.

The Easter egg has become synonymous with spring’s arrival.

Another reason eggs became a symbol of Easter is that early on, Christians not only abstained from eating meat, but also eliminated eggs during Lent. Therefore, Easter was the first chance to enjoy eggs and meat after the long abstinence.

Besides eggs, Easter is filled with images of bunnies, baby chicks and lily flowers because they all are symbols of rebirth. The Easter Bunny originally was used as a symbol of fertility, due to the rapid reproduction habits of rabbits.

“So, for our Easter Brunch, we will be preparing some delicious egg creations at our Omelet Station, as well as popular egg dishes and breakfast staples,” said Chef Josh. “Our menu also will feature a Carving Station, with glazed ham and top round, Seafood Display, Waffles, Vanilla French Toast and a variety of pastries, desserts and fruit, as well as a kid’s menu with all their favorites. I hope to see you on that great day of celebration.”
