“My whole community is 60 percent Canadian,” Carol stated. So is her husband, Richard, a former officer with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Carol was raised in Mesa, where she attended high school and college. When she met Richard, the couple decided to settle in chilly Calgary, Alberta, where they raised their three daughters.
This couple’s home coming story sounds much like an adventure. The Mores had decided to buy in with Blandford Homes, a popular developer with their Canadian compatriots. They were ready to escape the dreadful weather and were looking forward to building a high quality residence.
Carol will never forget the day in May 2008 when she lined up her rental van to stake out a position in the buyers’ queue, before the sale had even started. “I made number 26,” she proudly recalled. “More than a hundred lots were sold on the first day.”
The Mores bought their land in May 2008, started building their home that July, and took possession of the property in October of the same year. With everything happening so quickly, they weren’t quite ready to move in until March 2009.
Neither were some of their Canadian neighbors. Several Mountain Bridge houses needed looking after. Carol, a seasoned businesswoman, was just the right person for the job. She had recently put final touches on her new residence and was looking for things to do.
“I treat each client’s home as if it were my own,” Carol said while describing her personalized approach to service. That way, she and Richard, by now a retired security officer from a Northwest Territory diamond mine, are on call 24 hours a day.
Canadian Concierge pays meticulous attention to detail on their walkthroughs. Twice a month, Carol will check on the functioning of faucets, fridges, toilets, stove, lights, alarms, windows, shutters, pool appearance or irrigation needs. She will even start up the cars, letting them run for a while to keep them in running order.
“I go into the house right after the owners leave,” Carol said. She has found there is sometimes a light not turned off or a window not fully secured.
Carol recommends visits every two weeks for best assurance. If something goes wrong, you want to find out soon enough, like if an air-conditioner should break down. It might drive up the electricity bill or create some other damage.
When monitoring properties, Carol follows her own extensive home checklist. In a logbook, she records all her observations, down to the smallest detail. If outside help is needed for maintenance or repairs, Carol has a tried-and-tested contractor, guy or gal, for everything. She can even secure nannies.
No matter which service is needed, the Canadian Concierge always watches the hired hands. “My husband and I, coming from a law enforcement background, never give out the keys to a home,” Carol assured. “We are always there to unlock and lock the doors.”
As the Canadian Concierge, Carol has become the everything service for more than 20 happy absentee homeowners from Mountain Bridge, Las Sendas, Power Ranch and other locations. Why? Carol’s personalized approach can help out on so many levels.
“My husband and I go the extra step,” Carol said. “We have taken our clients to the airport for last-minute flights. Another time, I prepared a lasagna dinner for a family coming in quite late. I put it in the fridge for them.”
Under Carol and Richard’s watchful eyes, each house check becomes almost a home inspection. There is an economic advantage, too. Carol coordinates her service trips two in one. If a delivery is scheduled, she does the house check at the same time.
Confidence comes from experience. As such, Carol and Richard offer a treasure trove of skills and circumspection. Each home in their care ensures the owner’s peace of mind.
