Participation in Poker Tournament and Silent Auction Could Save a Life

by Submitted by Cathi Sabin July 4, 2011
written by Submitted by Cathi Sabin July 4, 2011

poker night charityThe second annual Charity Poker Tournament/Casino Night and Silent Auction to benefit Be The Match will take place on Aug. 20, from 5 to 10 p.m., at the Las Sendas Trailhead Members Club, 7900 E. Eagle Crest Drive.

Be The Match is a bone marrow registry vital to those in need of a transplant for survival. More than 10,000 patients are diagnosed every year with an illness treatable by a marrow transplant. Sadly, only 30 percent of patients will find a match within their own family. The other 70 percent must turn to Be The Match in hopes of finding a life-saving donor.

A local transplant recipient is Las Sendas resident Kelly Anderson, who was diagnosed with leukemia last year and needed a transplant to survive.

Happily, Kelly found a match. She received her transplant and is doing well!

Through her journey to find a marrow donor, Kelly’s friends and family created Team Kelly, a volunteer group formed to support the Be The Match marrow registry.

Team Kelly members volunteer their time. They continue to add more donors to the registry and help raise funds necessary to test potential donors.

Team Kelly also continues to support Be The Match to help others currently searching for a marrow donor. Now, you can help, too.

Enjoy an evening of delicious appetizers and desserts, as well as a cash bar, and help Team Kelly support Be The Match. With every $100 raised during the second annual Charity Poker Tournament/Casino Night and Silent Auction, Be The Match can add another life-saving donor to the registry for someone in need.

All proceeds from this worthy event will go to Be The Match Foundation. Donations are purely voluntary and are not a requirement to participate in the casino night or the Texas Hold ’em tournament. Participants must be at least 21 years old.

Please consider making a financial tax deductable contribution or a donation of goods or services to support this fund-raising effort. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Be The Match Foundation is the official 501(c)(3) charitable organization of the Be The Match Registry operated by the National Marrow Donor Program. The Employer Identification Number is 41-1704734.

Make checks payable to The Match Foundation. Mail checks to the attention of Oscar Correa and Aubrie Vargas, Be The Match, 2601 N. 3rd St., Suite 201A, Phoenix, AZ 85004.

For more information, contact Oscar Correa and Aubrie Vargas, account executives for Be The Match National Marrow Donor Program at (602) 277-1002 or (602) 277-1390. You also can send an e-mail to ocorrea@nmdp.org or avargas@nmdp.org.
