Las Sendas resident Kimberly Alvarado, a long-time professional news writer, had always wanted to challenge herself by writing a book. Then, when her family experienced a life-altering tragedy, that goal took on new meaning, and sherealized this was the story she needed to tell.
Miracle Hunt is a personal account of resilience, recovery, and the power of community.
Originally published in 2018, the book follows Kim’s family in the aftermath of a devastating accident involving her cousins, when a hunting incident left one critically injured and fighting for his life.
It traces the emotional and physical road to recovery through firsthand accounts, interviews, and extensive research. The book is about survival as well as how people show up in life’s most difficult moments.
“What carried us through wasn’t just hope, but the unwavering support of family, friends, and an entire community that refused to let us walk through the darkness alone,” Kim said. “Their kindness, their presence, and their willingness to show up in both the hardest and the quietest moments made all the difference.”
While the story itself is extraordinary, its message is one many readers find relatable. In a time when connection can feel increasingly distant, Miracle Hunt serves as a reminder of the importance of human kindness, and the role community plays in healing.
Kim was reminded of this message when the book recently found new momentum within her community. After gifting a copy to a friend during the holidays, Kim was surprised when it sparked the idea for a Meet the Author gathering, bringing together dozens of women to purchase and celebrate the book.
“I had kind of brushed the book to the side and thought it was time to start something new,” she said. “But seeing that kind of response and support again, it just gave me chills. It mirrored the support my family received when the accident happened, and it felt like this story was meant to be told again.”
For Kim, the renewed interest has also served as encouragement to continue writing and sharing new stories. “I think my purpose is to just keep writing,” she said.
“I always look forward to telling stories, and sometimes those readers come up in the most unexpected ways.” To purchase Miracle Hunt, email Kim directly atkimberly.alvarado1@gmail.com, visit Amazon, or buy through Kindle Direct.
